As the days get shorter and the air cooler, it’s time to think about reconnecting with your inner zen. Autumn is all about getting our bodies and souls ready for winter and what better way for a post-summer detox than going on a yoga retreat? Here are our favs in the UK and further afield.
Yoga in Sierra Leone (Tamsin Evans)
Eco yoga, Scottish Highlands
Perched on a hill amidst forests, streams and waterfalls, Eco Yoga Centre overlooks Loch Awe on the West Coast of Scotland. Powered by hydro turbine and heated by solar thermals, this lodge takes being eco-friendly seriously, but the vibe is rustic and homey. Fancy a soak in a hot tub beside a waterfall? Don’t mind if I do. The days begin and end with meditation, and aside from two Asthanga yoga sessions and the spa options, you can spend your free hours exploring the beautiful countryside dotted with Highland Cows. Bliss. But hurry, they only run from May to October. Ecoyoga.org.
Blooming Lotus Yoga, Bali
Reknowned around the world as a yoga wonderland, Bali is every yogi’s dream destination. Surrounded by lush green rice paddies and palm trees softly swaying in the breeze, it’s hard not to feel blissed out in Ubud. At Blooming Lotus, daily Vinyasa and Hatha classes, meditation and a variety of healing workshops are all complimented with fresh vegetarian meals and a whole lot of wholesomeness. Surf Maroc offer yoga retreats to nourish and balance the body and mind through a daily diet of vitalising yoga, serene surf and wholesome food all set to the lulling backdrop sounds of the ocean. To ease your aching body after a hard day spent on your board and mat, why not try a Moroccan steam bath or for something a bit different you could also try camel riding on the beach. Surfmaroc.com

You sleep in gorgeous eco-lodges with decking and underfloor heating powered by a wood pellet biomass boiler. Theclovermill.com
Summersault yoga retreat, Croatia
The yoga villa is set on the Croatian island of Vis, one of the most beautiful islands on the Mediterranean with it’s turquoise sea, green mountains and secret beaches. The retreat includes two yoga sessions, beach tours and a nightly yoga BBQ. Added extras include cycling, kayaking, SUP boarding or simply socialising with your new yoginis over wine and cheese. Freely Given Retreats, Devon
We like the ethos behind this charity which offers meditation retreats on a donation basis, so you only pay what you can afford. Retreats teach insight meditation, a form of mindfulness, and are held, mainly in silence, in High Heathercombe, a simple, peaceful place inside Dartmoor national park. Freelygivenretreats.org
