After a little hiatus, our monthly guides are back for 2019! We most definitely have spring in our sights now with bulbs appearing at a rate of knots and the days stretching out for us just that little bit longer. It's a time of hope and renewal and we can't help but feel excited for the month ahead. There is so much to look forward to - Fair Trade Fortnight, International Women's Day, Pancake Day (ok so not quite so virtuous but no less exciting to us!) to name just a few things we'll be getting involved with - not to mention gorgeous new collections arriving weeky right here at G&S. It really is a month of plenty - dig right in!
FAIR TRADE FORTNIGHT
Celebrating all things Fair Trade, this is a time to really shout about those companies who are doing things the right way and ensuring that farmers and suppliers are paid fairly for the work that they do. As one of our Philosophies, Fair Trade an important factor for G&S and we are always looking to support Fair Trade brands.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
Women make up 80% of the garment industry and whilst fashion is so often a source of inspiration, joy and in many cases a means of livelihood for women it is sadly also an industry that mistreats and undermines many of its female workers. This International Women's Day we will be celebrating the amazing women behind our brands, from seamstresses, to designers, cotton pickers to sales staff. In so many cases it is women driving the positive changes in fashion and that is something we are very proud to be a part of.
Friday 8th March
If you follow our instagram you'll know that we are partial to the odd stack of pancakes or two, so what could be more fun than a day dedicated to this fine battered treat! We'll be looking to make a healthier option this year with our eyes on Melissa Hemsley's version with bananas and quinoa.
Tuesday 5th March
Melissa Hemsley's Pancakes
Having been lucky enough to experience a Dior couture show as a teenager, G&S co-founder Alicia has been constantly inspired by the French house and we couldn't be more excited to visit the latest exhibition at the V&A. This major exhibition, Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams, spans from 1947 to the present day, tracing the history and impact of one of the 20th century's most influential couturiers and exploring the enduring influence of the fashion house, and Dior’s relationship with Britain. So many beautiful dresses in one place!
Until July 14th
This WWF initiative invites people to turn off their lights between 8.30pm and 9.30pm GMT for Earth Hour 2019 and raise awareness of climate change and the natural world. Last year, millions of people across 178 countries took part to show their support for the planet with a global 'lights out'. Many of London's big landmarks will be taking part so watch out for that if you are in the city. Something so simple we can all be a part of.
