The July Issue

The heatwave has arrived and so has July. Nothing beats England's countryside on a hot summers day so we are dedicating this month's issue to the best of British. With so much going on in the sunny British isles we can't think of anywhere else we would rather be. Celebrate midsummer wih some amazing goings on in the city and country this month.

WHAT TO DO…

Revel in Open Air Theatre

We can't think of many better ways of spending a warm summer's evening than sitting out under the stars watching some of the best in British theatre. In London the Regents Park Open Air theatre is renowned for its incredible productions including The Seagull and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers this season. Out of town Cambridge Shakespeare Festival is putting on productions in the majestic surroundings of the college gardens, with our pick being A Midsummer Night's Dream.  Pack yourself up a picnic and a glass of fizz and revel in the magic of theatre in the open air.

WHAT TO SEE….

Get some style inpsiration with Audrey Hepburn and YSL.

Not one but two fashion icons are being celebrated at exhibitions starting in the UK this month.  Yves Saint Laurent: Style is Eternal, the first exhibition in the UK to present a comprehensive display of the French fashion designer’s work and life will take place at the Bowes museum in Durham. We are definitely willing to trek up north for such an incredible portrait of a man who still has such an influence on the way we dress today! Meanwhile at the National Portrait Gallery, Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon will run from 2nd July until October. A selection of more than seventy images will define Hepburn’s iconography, including classic and rarely seen prints from leading twentieth-century photographers such as Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Terry O’Neill, Norman Parkinson and Irving Penn. A must see!

WHERE TO GO…

Oh I do Like to Be Beside the Seaside

From the dramatic coastlines of Cornwall and Devon to the picture perfect expanses of the Norfolk's beaches, our little island can boast some of the best seaside destinations in the world when the weather is good!  We love the idea of packing up and heading to the beach for a good old bucket and spade holiday. Norfolk's Holkham beach, with it's colourful beach huts is one of our favourites, once you are done walking the wilds of the beach, head to the gorgeous Victoria pub for a glass of pimms! If your heading to Cornwall the tiny village of St Agnes has that quintessential seaside feel and the bakery does some of the best Cornish pasty's to be found! If you need somewhere to lay your head check out The Idle Rocks at St Mawes for a terrace right on the harbour and nautical inspired rooms.

WHAT TO EAT....

Best of British.... Strawberries & Cream, What Else?

Wimbledon has begun which means we have the go ahead to start shovelling in bowls full of delicious British Strawberries and gallons of cream.  Simple and sweet. We can't think of much better.  Also in season, British peas and broadbeans - turn them into a mash with mint and a hint of chilli and serve on thin toasts for a gorgeous summery snack - Hemsley+Hemsley do a great recipe which you can find in their book The Art of Eating Well. Green is good after all!
