With our co founder Stephanie just having welcomed her very own beautiful new arrival, we've been inspired to tackle the traditionally tricky subject of maternity and nursing wear. Read on for how to do it the G&S way....
Even in this day and age it seems that 'maternity wear' is designed based on the assumption that as soon as a woman gets pregnant she loses interest in style and aesthetics. Maternity brands ask us to bid adieu to clean lines and modern silhouettes and suddenly embrace chintz and elasticated waist bands. Worse still they expect us to buy these pieces for a very finite amount of time only to banish the back of the cupboard once baby has arrived and we've come to our senses. Pregnancy hormones can be blamed for many things but giving up on your wardrobe shouldn't be one of them!
At G&S we believe in investing in pieces you love for the long term. With that in mind we've come up with our favourite pieces that will absolutely work as maternity wear and for breastfeeding but that you will still love and wear long after you come out of that glorious new Mum haze. In addition we pick pieces that are all about comfort and that are gentle against skin and bump - you'll no doubt be keen to swaddle your new born in organic cotton goodness but what about you?! After all your new born will be nestled into your bosom for most of the first few months of its life.
We know only too well that as sleep deprivation and constant feeding, burping and nappy changing kicks in then what your fashion choices become fairly low on the list of priorities. But if you have some good, comfortable basics ready to go it will make life that bit easier, and you that bit happier.
So without further ado we bring to you the G&S Mum edit. Enjoy!
Note - we recommend taking your normal size in all these pieces so that you can enjoy them post pregancy as well!
This dress is great for both maternity wear and for breastfeeding. It has a drawstring waist which you can tie just above bump and the voluminous fabric means you can wear right up until 40 weeks! The button down front makes it ideal for easy access when breastfeeding.
Such a beautiful dress and so versatile - it is loose fitting so you will be able to wear it as your bump grows. It is also reversible so the pretty button down back detail can become a button down front for breast feeding.
As every Mum knows, your feet get sore carrying around the weight of your bump and once your little one is on the move you will be chasing around at a rate of knots. So comfortable footwear is a must. These Veja's are pretty damn cool too.

First and foremost that fabric. Made from a beautiful organic linen and part lined with organic bamboo silk, need we say more. Whilst you'll be able to wear it well into your second trimester, it will really come into its own once your baby has arrived thanks to that button down front.
G&S's other co founder Alicia swore by this billowing baby alpaca blanket scarf when she had her baby boy. It works as the cosiest cover up you can imagine - whether you are snuggling up with your bump or breastfeeding. The leather tassels add just a touch of rock and roll. As far away from typical gaudy breastfeeding cover ups as you can get.
Just a brilliant dress that will see your through the full term but that you will also gladly put on once your bump has gone. The voluminous shape elegantly drapes around your figure making this a super flattering option. We love it worn with a pair of Vejas!
So we may have been a touch disparaging about elasticated waistbands but in this case it just works! These culottes are great for summer with their gorgeous print and will fit under your bump until you get into your third trimester. Great for post partum as well as they are super comfortable and can be worn with a strappy top for breastfeeding.
Made from supremely soft organic cotton that is great for your own and your babies skin, this dress is both practical and stylish. The loose fit means you'll wear throughout pregnancy and it has those handy buttons for feeding time. The weight of the fabric also drapes flatteringly on non pregnant bods!
