The August Issue

August isn't all about holidays. For those of us whose week of sun away seems but a faded and distant memory, August can be one of those long slow months, gently meandering towards the sad end of summer. The trick, my friends, is to relish the last leisurely dregs as long as you can before September sweeps in with new season, back to school vibes and a renewed energy. We have helped search out some of the best ways to make the most of this last month of summer to make it that bit more fruitful... check it out.

WHAT TO DO…

Savvy Sale Shopping... First Stop the Gather&See Pop Up!

So yes even we can admit that sale shopping can be a bit tedious. But in August you can find some of the very best deals on beautiful pieces that will last you through the early part of Autumn and will come out as soon as spring starts to appear. It is all about being smart with your strategy. Of course online is a great place to start - avoid the summer heat, sit down in the comfort of your own home and browse to your hearts content preferably with a cooling G&T in the other hand. Gather&See has some amazing pieces such as our ever popular Makru Earrings, Beaumont Organic cottons and even a few more Osei Duro silk dresses remaining at up to 65% off! Alternatively, and we would argue EVEN BETTER, come and see our lovely pieces first hand at our Pop Up at the Pigeon Hole, Camberwell on Friday 14th from 9AM - 9PM.  Not only can you try on all of the pieces you have been eyeing up  online but there will be additional special discounts and you can sample the Pigeon Hole's mouthwatering food and drinks at the same time.  Shopping perfection or what!! Hope to see you there!

WHAT TO SEE….

The Amazing Iris

IF you are looking for a bit of inspiration, a bit of get up and go this month, then this is the film for you. IRIS pairs legendary 87-year-old documentarian Albert Maysles with Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93-year-old style maven who has had an outsized presence on the New York fashion scene for decades. More than a fashion film, the documentary is a story about creativity and how, even in Iris' dotage, a soaring free spirit continues to inspire. IRIS portrays a singular woman whose enthusiasm for fashion, art and people are life's sustenance and reminds us that dressing, and indeed life, is nothing but an experiment. Despite the abundance of glamour in her current life, she continues to embrace the values and work ethic established during a middle-class Queens upbringing during the Great Depression. "I feel lucky to be working. If you're lucky enough to do something you love, everything else follows." Simply Brilliant.

WHERE TO GO…

Spanish Elegance in Madrid

We don't really need another reason to love Madrid.  From its grand architecture, elegant avenues and immense art collections to the deicious food and unbelivably stylish residents, it has an understated quality that we can't get enough of.  But add to that a new exhibition entitled Vogue: Like A Painting and we can't book our flights quick enough. The exhibition features photographs from the Vogue archives that are inspired by works of art. Traces of the work of Constable, Zuloaga and Sorolla, among others, are present in the pieces on display in this show, which combines leading names in classic photography with the talent of new generations, including Irving Penn, Annie Leibovitz, Tim Walker, Paolo Roversi, Steven Klein, David Sims, Erwin Olaf, Michael Thompson, Mario Testino and Peter Lindbergh, to name a few.. Simply breathtaking.

Vogue: Like A Painting at the Museo Thysen until October 12th.

WHAT TO EAT....

Fruits of the Forest

Well August is the month of harvest and finally our British trees are laden with delicious juicy fruit just waiting to be picked. Our favourites include plums, gooseberries, cherries and greengages. If you aren't lucky enough to have one in your garden (like Ms Hogg!) then head to your local orchard to pick your own.  We have been experimenting with jams and compotes which can be kept in jars or frozen to keep you going long into the winter. Perfect with porridge and yoghurt. Yum!! #EatGoodDressGood
