Inspirational Brand - The Kind Label

In the word's of G&S Co-Founder Steph: "As the birth of our first child neared, I was scouring the internet for a Moses basket to put our little one down in during the day. Living in a one bedroom flat, our space is limited so I wanted something that would fit in with the aesthetics of our sitting room and that was, of course, ethical."

"That is why I was so excited to come across The Kind Label on Instagram, an inspirational brand creating beautiful Moses baskets in Ghana. I instantly fell in love with their beautiful imagery, transporting me to their Ghanaian workshops. The Kind Label's mission is to work with Ghanaian micro producers and artisanal manufacturers, creating the opportunity for them to operate as part of a profitable value chain by providing new demands for their cultural crafts.  As the former owner of a Sierra Leonean fashion label, I am passionate about West African style and craftsmanship and, with their strong ethical ethos, I knew I had to have one."

"The Moses basket was as beautiful on arrival as it is in the images and Edith quickly took to it. We love putting her down in the sitting room or taking it out into the garden when it is a bit warmer. We absolutely love it."

The Kind Label is Fair Trade and their ethos is to simply be fair and KIND to those they work with and to those they come across on the journey establishing their label. Transparency is at the heart of the brand and they have a natural affinity with Gather&See. The baskets bring colour and style into any room and they also produce beautiful childrens textiles too.

Behind The Kind - Proces Of Weaving 2

Each basket is woven by hand using traditional methods in the town of Bolgatanga on the edge of the Sahara Desert in Ghana. Basket weaving has helped bring much needed income to the villages surrounding Bolgatanga. Weaving is a traditional skill, which has been handed down from generation to generation. The baskets are made from kinkahe or elephant grass which grows in swamps and along rivers across Ghana, and is favoured by elephants, hence the name.
