The hiatus between Christmas and New Year is the perfect time to rest, recuperate and embrace some Danish style Hygge to get yourself reinvigorated and energized for the new year. Cosy up by the fire, grab yourself a good book and wrap yourself up in beautiful knits and organic cottons for a rare bit of me time while you can. Here are our top tips for relaxing at home to get you started.
Light and Warmth
Never underestimate the power of light and warmth. On dark December days light up a few candles and it will transform your room and your mood. We love Nathalie Bond Organics - their Rose Geranium & Patchouli candle is one of our favourite scents. If you are lucky enough to have a fire or woodburner get it going - there's something luxurious about having the fire on during the day.
Nourish Your Soul
If you over indulged a touch at Christmas then now is the time to make up for it with warm and healthy food to will make you feel good inside and out. Deliciously Ella's warming bowl food is a staple choice of ours as are Hemsley+Hemsley's guilt free recipes.
The Cosiest Knitwear
Wrap up in the softest and warmest of wools - our favourite has to be Alpaca which is up there with cashmere in terms of luxury but a more sustainable option. Osei Duro's Base Knit features a soft weave that just drapes over the body and is hand woven in Peru using undyed baby alpaca. Meanwhile Ally Bee's knits and accessories are all woven in the British Isles from alpaca and sheep reared in England. Just perfect for these chilly days.
Whether you are lucky enough to sit down and devour a whole tome in one sitting or just get time to flick through a few pages before bed - making the effort to shut down your iphone and laptop and enjoy a book should be one of lifes great pleasures. With a few days off between Christmas and New Year now is the time to get started on your list of must reads. Our favourite accompaniment to a good book is our Aletha Scarf! Warm and stylish it is made from baby Alpaca and the perfect throw to wrap yourself up in to enjoy a good page turner!
A Long Soak
The benefits of a long warm bath are enormous. We love nothing more than taking a good long soak at the end of a cold day or after a bracing walk. Some essential oils or natural bath salts will help relax and soothe - Nathalie Bond's Rose Geranium and Pink Himalayan salts do the job perfectly. For maximum enjoyment pour yourself a glass of red to sit on the side! The best end to a lazy day.
