Unbelievably this week marks the 1 year anniversary of the launch of Gather&See. It seems like yesterday since we eagerly pressed launch and anticipated what might lie ahead and now here we are a year later with the site going strong and a wonderful, loyal customer base that perfectly understands our mission and unique offering.
The idea for Gather&See was a long time coming - we wanted to offer beautiful ethical clothing that was genuinely stylish and that we ourselves wanted to wear. Months of research, moonlighting and brainstorming followed and we were so delighted to finally go live with our first collection in June last year. And the adventure had only just begun.
The amazing feeling when the first order came through is something that neither of us will ever forget - still with every order we receive now it is a wondeful feeling that people relate to our products and like what we are doing. Starting from nothing was tough. Figuring out how to spread the word, generate followers and get our old school heads around our social media channels.
It has been a steep learning curve for us both and each and every day we discover something new. Of course there have been mistakes and roadblocks along the way. It is a scary thing leaving a long term full time job to follow your dream and I would be lying to say there weren't moments where I questioned whether I'd done the right thing. But with each month we get a few more orders and a few more followers and the sense that we are doing something that matters and that others believe in far outweighs any doubts we've had.
In a year we have developed the site to run smoothly and look far slicker than when we fist began (if we do say so ourselves). We have been fortunate to have partnered with some exceptional brands many of which we have seen us grow from strength to strength in the past 3 seasons. Names such as Osei Duro, A Peace Treaty and Lalesso have become firm favourites and we are proud to stock such inspirational labels. We have had customers from all over the world from Australia to Addis Ababa, from LA to the Isle of Man. We have done several successful Pop Ups which has given us the invaluable opportunity to speak to our customers face to face, something we hope to do more of in the future. Not only have cutomers responded, so have the press. We have had pieces in the Telegraph, Harpers Bazaar, How To Spend It, The Observer, Stylist and Metro to name just a few.
None of these successes could have come about without the belief and support of our followers, customers, friends and family. We truly can't thank you enough for that. It helps remind us that we are on the right path and that Gather&See has an exciting future ahead. We are convinced that AW15/16 will be our strongest collection yet and we have some exciting partnerships and developments to keep an eye out for. We might be small but we have a strong voice and with the fashion industry waking up more and more to the need for reform and change we will keep offering a better alternative to a conscious fashion customer. The time is most definitely now.
So here is to an amazing first year and to many more to come.
