For our first Gather&See Girl of 2016 we are delighted to introduce a true fashion innovator and one of the most important voices in ethical fashion, the ever inspirational Orsola de Castro.
How did you first become interested in ethical fashion?
I am completely uninterested in ethical fashion. I am interested in fahion. And because I love it so much, I want it to be well designed, beautifully made, I don't want it to slowly poison me with toxic chenicals and I want it to be a source of dignity for those who make it.
Why is the ethical fashion movement so important to you?
Because there is no fashion future without it.
How has ethical fashion developed in the past 10 years and what lies ahead in the future?
Fashion leads trends and lifestyles and the past 10 years have paved the way for a more sustainable future, as we have all become painfully aware of the reality behind the facade. So now we can turn a corner and let the fashion industry lead the change.
Look at fashion revolution, a product of the past 10 years of realisation and a tool to change the fashion industry in the future.
Who or what inspires you?
Art, literature, people, colours.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

So many things make me happy, too may to list: but let's say my kids, clothes, kittens, and definitely cheese.

Which are your favourite 3 pieces on the G&S website at the moment?
What is your personal style?

I don't have one in particular, but I am influenced by strong women: Anna Achkmatova, Sonya Delunay, Elsa Schiapparelli, Patti Smith, and I could go on and on.
Which item of clothing do you most treasure?
My wardrobes (I have 3). Every single piece is meaningful, my preferences change all the time. I seldom buy new stuff, but I love everything I own.
Hopes and dreams for 2016?
None, my hopes go well further than 2016 and I prefer to leave my dreams for night time.
