This months Gather&See Girl is the beautiful and inspiring Camilla Swain, who has done an amazing job of raising awareness of Mental Health. Find out what makes her angry and what inspires her.
What is your age, where you live and what you do?
30, Nunhead, Celebrities and Ambassadors Manager for Mind.
I work with people in the public eye to raise awareness about mental health, helping to reduce the stigma that’s sadly still so prevalent.
What or who inspires you?
I have an incredible group of close girl friends and when I look at everything they’re achieving I’m overwhelmed by how talented and fearless they are – be it starting a business, moving abroad, making a baby, renovating an old house, going back to uni and starting over…
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
“Relationships are a choice – pick those where just being with that person makes you the best version of yourself you can possibly be.” It’s about surrounding yourself with people who inspire you and, through their kindness, make you a kinder person in return.
What advice would you give your teenage self?
Take more risks. Experiment more. Dare to be different.
What makes you angry?
Too many things! But they mainly come down to rudeness and sexism.
What makes you happy?
Sending post cards. I went away to school and my mum sent me a post card every other day for 7 years. It didn’t matter what the message was, I’d smile and stick the picture on my wall. It’s just simple sentimentality. I love it.
What's your favourite restaurant?
Trullo in Highbury and Islington for supper. Albion in Shoreditch for brunch.
Latest discovery at home or abroad?
Nunhead cemetery. At the top of the hill there’s a perfect view of St Pauls through a parting in the trees. It’s the only spot in London I’ve felt truly alone.
Where is on your travel hit list for 2015?
Rwanda and Derbyshire.
Which city in the world would you love to live in for just 1 year?
Which is your favourite piece on the G&S website at the moment?
I recently bought the Kit T-Base bag by Danielle Foster. It’s leather perfection.
What is your personal style?
My wardrobe is all denim, androgynous shapes and very simple prints.
Who is your fashion hero / style icon?
Jessie Ware - she’s proves pop doesn’t have to be brash. She seems at home in her clothes and it’s that confidence that makes her sexy.
Which item of clothing do you most treasure?
My gran’s fur coat. I used to dress up in it and the matching fur hat when I was little. Now I’m in denial about the growing number of moth holes and wear it all winter,
What is your 'can't live without' beauty product?
Ren Evercalm Day Cream and Sally Hansen “Insta Dri” top coat. They changed my life!
Why is shopping ethical important to you?
In general life I support charities I believe in, I recycle, I give blood – for me ethical shopping is just an extension of this. Making daily decisions to acknowledge your role in society.
