British brand OFKT design and make ladies contemporary classic footwear from wastage materials. The brand's shoes are made in a family run shoe factory in Yorkshire. Using offcuts, enables OFKT to use wastage pieces at a limited run. Once an offcut is used up, then it’s gone - and OFKT source another which could be a pull up leather, a suede, a nubuck, textile - whatever is available at the time.
In the words of Designer and Founder Ashley:
"I started OFKT in late 2015. The idea came from basically being disillusioned with fast fashion and wanting to start a brand that truly cares.. cares about its workers, the environment, the quality of the product, the craft of shoemaking...
There’s some 23.22 million tons of leather which ends up in the landfill each year. OFKT try to play a part in reducing that waste and we do it by the make up of the shoes. I get leather offcuts from a supplier in Keighley, Yorkshire. The dustbag, the ribbon, the info card, and the shoebox - all the packaging components are made from wastage and recycled materials - and I get these from SCRAP. They are based in Farsley, Leeds. www.scrapstuff.co.uk. One of the most inspiring places to go. They have a shop open to the public where you can buy all these wastage materials, and they also offer creative workshops and training for adults and children, school projects, art-drop in sessions..."
OFKT make their shoes in a family run shoe factory in Yorkshire. The factory workers are paid fairly and the brand uses good quality materials and components. Each pair is placed carefully with the handmade dustbag, and wrapped in cellophane and a ribbon holding the info label. The wastage shoebox (or shoetube!) is then sealed with a candle wax stamp with the OFKT logo imprinted.
