MASKA is dedicated to creating exceptional clothes where yarn, fabric and design come together in perfect harmony. Each MASKA garment is crafted from natural fibres carefully selected for their lasting beauty.
“At MASKA we want everyone to discover the beauty and allure of exquisite yarns, fabrics and refined detailing that we love so much ourselves. We make the clothes we have always dreamed of wearing.”
MASKA was founded in 2009 with a clear mission: to design relevant, quality garments that transcend the seasons and to produce them in a sustainable way.
“We always thought that something made with great care inherits something sublime – a soul”.
Passionate about yarn and artisanal knitting techniques the first MASKA collection consisted of a range of cardigans (MASKA means “knitted stitch” in Swedish). The idea was to start a brand that took the best parts from the hand knitting world – the quality of yarns and the elaborate structures – and make it commercially available.
As demand grew, the collections now includes both knitwear and woven garments such as shirts, trousers and coats in coordinated collections for both autumn and spring.
Production, Materials and Sustainability:
MASKA take ethical and environmental concerns into consideration when producing their garments and purchasing materials. The brand's sustainability endeavours include many dimensions.
Not only is the choice of fibres important, but also the garment’s entire lifecycle and frequency of wear and care. Selecting materials that age with grace and are long-lasting is central to the sourcing philosophy.
Each yarn and every weave has its own unique quality such as shine, drape and softness. Maska believe that creating great garments with a long life is about a deep understanding for the materials and selecting the right yarn and fabric for every design.
Maska use natural fibers and only use oil-based fibres or threads to enhance the performance of a garment, never to reduce costs.
The brand works with long-term trends and avoids the short ones to give garments a longer lifecycle. Quality in sewing is highly important as this gives a garment lasting value. When a trend passes, the beauty is inherent.
The brand takes environmental aspects regarding usage and washing into consideration by favouring materials that seldom need laundering and require lower washing temperatures.
All knitwear yarn is spun in Europe apart from the cashmere and silk blend. We hand pick all yarns and fabrics and always keep direct contact with the spinning mills and weavers trying to affect the choices of their fiber and yarn suppliers.
All knitwear is produced in the EU following the labor laws of the European Union, apart from one style which is produced in Nepal at a Swedish-owned factory. Though outside the EU, this supports the growth of local industry. The factory is managed according to fair labour guidelines created by the international non-profit organisation Fair Wear Foundation. All woven garments are also produced within the E.U. following the labour laws of the European Union.
